Foundation/Other Research Grant Opportunities

 
The Elsa U. Pardee Foundation funds investigators proposing research directed toward identifying new treatments or cures for cancer. The foundation particularly encourages grant applications for a one-year period which will allow establishment of capabilities of new cancer researchers, or new cancer approaches by established cancer researchers. It is anticipated that this early stage funding by the foundation may lead to subsequent and expanded support using government agency funding. Project relevance to cancer detection, treatment, or cure should be clearly identified.

                                      American Association for Cancer Research

Fight Colorectal Cancer-AACR Career Development Award, in memory of Lisa Dubow
This award is open to junior faculty who are in the first four years of a faculty appointment at the start of the grant term on Sunday, July 1. The award provides $100,000 over two years ($50,000 per year) for direct research expenses. Research projects are restricted to translational or clinical cancer research that has an ultimate goal of developing or improving therapeutic interventions for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.

Landon Foundation-AACR INNOVATOR Award for Cancer Prevention Research
This award was established to recognize the outstanding achievement of a junior faculty-level scientist working in the field of cancer prevention, and support his or her novel and innovative research that, if successful, will have strong potential for high impact in the cancer prevention field. The award is open to junior faculty who are in the first four years of a faculty appointment at the start of the grant term on Sunday, July 1 and provides $100,000 over two years ($50,000 per year) for direct research expenses.

Caring for Carcinoid Foundation-AACR Grants for Carcinoid Tumor and Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor Research
These grants are available to independent junior and senior investigators to develop and study new ideas and approaches that have direct application and relevance to carcinoid tumors or pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. Proposed research may be in any discipline of basic, translational, clinical, or epidemiologic cancer research. These two-year grants will provide $250,000 over the grant term ($125,000 per year).

Applications will be accepted from independent investigators at all levels who are affiliated with an academic, medical or research institution. There are no citizenship or geographic requirements. 

Landon Foundation-AACR INNOVATOR Award for International Collaboration in Cancer Research
This award supports highly meritorious research that is being conducted collaboratively by investigators in different countries around the world. The award provides $100,000 over two years ($50,000 per year). The goals of the program are to:
•    overcome barriers to international collaboration by providing funding for costs traditional grant mechanisms may not support;
•    raise the profile of the importance of collaboration to conquering the cancer problem; and
•    provide the means to facilitate travel and the sharing of knowledge that otherwise may have been difficult to achieve.
Applications will be accepted from two or more independent investigators working within an established international cancer research collaboration involving institutes in multiple countries. Proposals to initiate a collaborative project will not be accepted.

Landon Foundation-AACR INNOVATOR Award for Research in Personalized Cancer Medicine
This award offers support for the use of genomics to accurately predict individual responses to treatment with a drug or biologic agent. The award provides $100,000 over two years ($50,000 per year). Proposed research may include:
•    proof-of-concept studies in humans;
•    translational clinical trials that utilize science-based methodologies for patient selection;
•    multidisciplinary research that includes the incorporation of disciplines that are new to cancer research (i.e., the physical sciences, mathematics, etc.);
•    studies that molecularly target pathways;
•    the identification of genes and genetic variations that play a role in cancer treatment responses; and
•    other innovative areas of cancer therapeutics.
Applicants must have a medical degree (M.D., D.O., or international equivalent) or hold a combined M.D./Ph.D., and not currently be a candidate for a further doctoral or professional degree. This grant to physician-scientists is intended to have an impact on the field of personalized cancer medicine as a whole.
